William Swanbeck - Former Commanding Officer of the USS MONTPELIER
A retired submarine officer with the United States Navy, William Brad Swanbeck last served as special assistant to the commanding officer at Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Connecticut. Among other responsibilities in this role, he oversaw the maintenance of barges and cranes and took the lead for the base's COVID-19 mitigation strategy, which involved preventing the spread of the virus and supporting mission continuation. William Swanbeck previously served as commanding officer of the USS MONTPELIER.
Through two years in this position, William Brad Swanbeck led a team of 150 technicians responsible for a chief of naval operations interim dry docking maintenance overhaul worth more than $300 million. He also commanded the first-ever fleet modular automated undersea vehicle launch from a submarine. In addition, he has served on board the USS DALLAS, USS MARYLAND, and USS ASHEVILLE. He began working on the USS ASHEVILLE in 2001 after earning a bachelor's in mechanical engineering at the US Naval Academy.
Mr. Swanbeck also holds an MBA from the University of Wisconsin and a certificate in operations analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School. In addition, he completed training including Nuclear Power School, Nuclear Prototype Training, and the Submarine Officer Basic Course.
